About the Book
The 2009 activities of the Project for Monitoring the Changing Oceanographic Conditions of the Marmara Sea (MAREM) aim to scientifically monitor changes in the Marmara Sea ecosystem due to global environmental impacts. The project emphasises the necessity of continuous observations to accurately assess effects of environmental degradation and natural events. Conducted by various institutions since 1954 and under the auspices of the Sevinç–Erdal İnönü Foundation since 2006, the MAREM project contributes to the scientific documentation of environmental changes in the region and the development of sustainable management strategies through regular monitoring of the Marmara Sea's oceanographic, chemical, and ecological parameters.
